The app, if you couldn’t guess, is finally released for the iPhone! And, it is stellar. I look forward to using it more.

I was reminded this morning of a javascript add on called Lightbox, described like this:
a simple, unobtrusive script used to overlay images on the current page.
However, my google search also brought me to a similar plugin, that is based on Lightbox. It is called Slimbox. I looked into this one a bit and wanted to use the most lightweight add on. You can find some of the features here, which led me to try it out on my site.
Now, the main scenarios for me using this will most likely be when I want to showcase more than just one photo. If you click on the photo above, you will see the gallery in action. Tumblr is mega easy for posting images on the fly, but I just got to thinking, and kinda wanted that extra kick of functionality.
One other thing I want to point out, is that I do not have a web hosting account. Tumblr allows for custom domains (for free) which I definitely love about them. However, for times like this javascript plugin, or even my custom theme, I use Dropbox. It continues to blow me away at the things I can do with it. Basically, I have the javascript and css files on my computer, but they are being referenced from the public url that Dropbox gives me for the files. I also tested putting the javascript files on pages.google.com, and the javascript did not load. Interesting.
Get Dropbox
If you sign up for Dropbox using my referral link, you will get an extra 250mb of storage – bringing you to 2.25GB of free cloud storage. And, on top of that, Dropbox is a remarkable service. It gives you the ability to sync files to multiple computers seamlessly, track file revision, recover deleted files, share files publicly, and much more.
www.getdropbox.com
I found this post on the Dropbox Wiki, and had to post it. I am a huge fan of Dropbox, and continue to find great ways to use it.
Have you ever wanted to take a screenshot and have it uploaded and in your clipboard with one click?
Well now you can!
Jing offers you exactly this! But you don’t want them storing your stuff do you? You want to store it on Dropbox so you:
- Aren’t restricted by their space limitations.
- support Dropbox.
So download Jing install it on you Mac or PC and let it start up (you’ll need to get a screencast account to use it). Now go to the most right bubble(“More”) then “Preferences” and at “Set up sharing for” click “File”. Set the Target Directory to some folder in your public Dropbox folder and set the share link to “http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/$USERID/[folder]/[filename]” (replacing $USERID with the number you find when creating other public links). Now click “OK” and you’re all set. There is one minor disadvantage: If you move your file in the public dropbox folder, the link changes, whereas with screencast it stays the same.
re-discovered dropbox and am totally digging it
